Old barns are a passion with me. I have been travelling the midwest photographing old and interesting barns for some years. Recent uploads does not necessarily mean recently taken. Up until March, 2008, I worked with a film camera so some pictures will be from scanned shots. Hope you find some you like and are interested in. These will be the general photos that will later be moved to the "Barns of the Midwest" gallery.

barnbones > The sixteen sided barn was built between 1908-1912, by a German immigrant, Henry W. Fromme, to house his registered Percheon stallions brought from France, for a cost of $8000. Located in Kiowa Co., Mullinville, KS (2-1/2 miles west of Wichita)
barnbones > Tractors replaced horses as the work force and the barn became obsolete. Later was used for hay storage. It was given to Phyllis Birney by her husband as an anniversary gift and in 1987 was listed, along with 1 acre of land, on the National Register of Historic Places due to its architectural significance.
barnbones > The Fromme-Birney barn was restored in 1995. It stands 50 ft. tall and 70 ft. in diameter. It has a double pitch dome roof with a sixteen sided cupola (monitor style) with a 6.5 ft. weathervane, which has also been restored.
